Kalsubai Trek: Conquer the Highest Peak of Maharashtra
Kalsubai Peak is the highest peak in Maharashtra, standing tall at an elevation of approximately 5,400 feet (1,646 meters) above sea level. Located in the Ahmednagar district near Bari village, it is often referred to as the “Everest of Maharashtra” and is a dream destination for trekking enthusiasts. From the summit, trekkers are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of famous forts and peaks such as Alang, Madan, Kulang, Ratangad, and Harishchandragad. The trek to Kalsubai is considered moderately difficult, making it suitable for beginners with basic fitness as well as experienced trekkers.
One of the unique features of this trek is the presence of iron ladders installed at steep patches, which make the climb safer and more accessible. At the summit, there is a small temple dedicated to Goddess Kalsubai, which holds religious significance for locals. Many villagers regularly visit the temple, especially during festivals. Kalsubai is especially popular for night treks and sunrise views. During the pre-monsoon season, the surrounding region also becomes a hotspot for witnessing the magical fireflies festival, adding an extra charm to the trekking experience.
